Bookkeeping and financials for a flooring company
Most flooring companies know their price per square foot and do not know their margin per job. Material is bought job by job, labor is a mix of crew and subs, deposits come in weeks before the install, and the books are reconciled in March when the accountant asks. That makes it impossible to know whether LVP or refinishing is the more profitable product, or whether an ad budget is paying for itself.
Clean monthly books fix that: every job tagged by product, material and labor matched to it, deposits held as liabilities until the floor is down, and a one-page statement you can read in five minutes.
At two weeks, working looks like three months reconciled, a flooring chart of accounts, job costing by product, and the first statement with margin by product line.
